Ousman lead the first Muslim Student Association class on March 1st, 2017 in Ratliff Building North room 2012 at 1 p.m. to teach about the main themes of surah Al-Asr though a lecture. At the beginning of the class, Ousman gave out handouts from bayyinah tv that relates to the lecture. Ousman mentioned that even though surah Asr is three ayats (or shot letters that form sentences) long, the main themes of about time and that human beings are lost. The surah begins with having the first ayat say “by time,” which gives emotion to the reader, and though time an oath has been sworn. Ousman adds on by stating that the five benefits of making an oath in the Qur’an include: get attention, not being believed, angry, testify and one more that I forgot to get. Ousman then shifts the topic of the lecture to the two objects of a witness and evidence. People are always losing time, but like almost everything else you can get back from it, if it is manageable. Nass is a word mentioned in the surah, that is used to describe human being and the word al insan is singular. To conclude the lecture, Ousman mentioned that god has put something in everyone that makes us unique, and that everyone is in loss except the person that believes.
