Ousman who is a student at the University of Texas at Tyler taught the first Quran class at RBN 2012 on Wednesday March 1st at 1 p.m. to explain the Qur’an through a lecture, and later we discussed about Showdown in San Antonio.
From the lecture Ousman began by explaining that the non-believers wanted to disprove the Prophet Muhammad by finding mistakes in the Qur’an to prove that it is not divine. During that time the Arabian people were isolated, and what drew them together was their language. If a miracle is in the form of sound or text, then it will last longer and can avoid destruction. When writing, it is easier to be accurate than compared to speaking. Surah Al-Baqarah has 286 ayats or verses, and it took 12 days for the surah to be completely delivered to the Prophet Muhammad SWS from Gabriel (Jibraeel) who was given the message from Allah (God). Neither the sun nor the moon shall overtake the other. Humans are made of mud and spread though out the world, and come back together when they find spouses. The Qur’an mentioned how iron was sent from the heavens, and it has been believed that we got that material when a meteor containing that metal hit the Earth.
Showdown will take place in San Antonio from April 14th to the 16th, and the University of Texas at Tyler Muslim Student Association (MSA) members will be joining the Texas Junior College MSA members, as well as some of the high school students. The showdown event is like the super bowl, or the “halal bowl”, where different Muslim Student Associations get together to compete in different categories including: poetry, art, video or singing. Here students will have a chance to meet and talk to different people. It is a great time to hang out and have fun. The plan for the UT Tyler MSA is to register first and then decide on what everyone will do. Early registration is due by March 25th and there is a discount.
