Weekend mornings are usually the time people use to sleep in after an exhausting week. However, that is not the case for some Muslims at the East Texas Islamic Center.

Mornings are usually cold, with gentle breezes drifting by outside on the weekends. The cats would be asleep or come out for breakfast of dried cat food and milk. Meanwhile the Muslims praying Fajr/morning prayer attend their weekly Qur'an class lead by sheik Abdullah at the masjid. The class usually starts after everyone has made their duas/ prayers for Fajr, then we each would grab a Qur'an (which is the holy book of Islam, like how Christianity has the Bible and Judaism has the Torah) or some of us would use an application on our phone that has the Qur'an, and the contents of the Qur'an are written in the Arabic language. We being by reading together the last chapter/surah from the Qur’an that we went over the previous week. Afterwards we each take turns reciting what we have learned, and the sheik will correct us when necessary. When we are done, we would read the next surah from the Qur’an together, and then class would conclude. Sometimes at the end of the class the sheik would ask us if we have memorized the surah from the previous week, and if we have he would request that we would recite it for him.
