11th Annual Texas MSA Showdown 2017

The Muslim Student Association of the University of Texas at Tyler attended the 11th Annual Texas MSA Showdown at the University of Texas at San Antonio from April 14th though 16th, the members included: Minahil Drkin, Mohammad Ali, Shahzeb Ansair and Zikriyya Shaikh; in order to compete against other Muslim Student Associations in Texas in different competitions.
Day 1

The members of the group comprised of Minahil Drkin, Mohammad Ali, Shahzeb Ansair and Zikriyya Shaikh left at 7:15 a.m. on Friday April 14th UTSA (University of Texas at San Antonio) Cir San Antonio, TX 78249 United States in order to participate in the MSA Showdown.
The drivers needed to refuel at around 10:07 a.m., and were able to stop by McDonald' at about 11:42 a.m. They later found the location of the masjid at 11900 N Lamar Blvd, Austin TX 78753-2143, United States, and went to The Halal Bros restaurant. Some of them were low on fuel at around 4:51 p.m. and had to stop for gas.
They appear to have arrived at their destination at around 6:21 p.m. where they got their room to stay in and register. All of the participants joined an orientation with several performances. The MSA students stayed at a Comfort Suite hotel, and had a meeting with the other MSA students from other universities from 10:47 p.m. to 11:49 p.m. When the meeting was over, the UT Tyler MSA decided to go to Shisha Cafe to eat at around 12:23 a.m.
Day 2

The hotel was serving breakfast that morning until 9:30 a.m. One of the requirements to play soccer that day was to have a state issued license to play, and if they forgot theirs, then they had to ask someone to scan their passport.
The players had to be there at 1, and they were planning on leaving at 12:30. The game was between UT Tyler and UH. The team was busy yesterday, and slept before 3 a.m. the previous day and showed up 30 minutes late to the knowledge bowl. However, now they qualify to participate in the second round, and were able to win that as well, because tomorrow the UT Tyler boys team is going to the finals in the knowledge bowl, when they tied for 3rd place.
The soccer team won their game and beat University of Texas at San Antonio 4 to 2. UT Tyler tied the first game against Houston 4-4, but won game 2 against San Antonio 4-2. UT Tyler advances to the semi-finals against Rio Grandeur Valley, and won 10 to 5. Now University of Texas at Tyler will play against the UT Dallas team (who beat Texas A&M) in the finals. Against University of Texas at Dallas University of Texas Tyler was down 3 to 1 at half time, and lost 7 to 3. However, they were still able to get second place.

Dinner was being served at the University Center, and the University of Texas at Tyler Muslim Student Association was assigned to eat in Harris hall. After dinner, there was an Islamic lecture for both genders in the main room. Finally came the talent show in the University Center Ballroom, and University of Texas at Tyler's Aji Fatou was participating.
Day 3

Everyone began packing up at around 4 am that morning so they would be able to make it back to UT Tyler after the award ceremony was over. They were suppose to check out of the hotel by 11 am, and were out of the hotel by around 2 pm. The MSA group stopped for Maghrib prayer at Golden Chick.
However, it appears that they have split into two groups, and one group was ahead of them. They got back at around 11:06 pm, and everyone appeared to have had a good time. The awards were for soccer, knowledge bowl, spoken word and Tajweed (or correct enunciation of the Qur'an).
